A Foxtrot With Fred And Ginger

Stirlingshire Foxes

Lying in bed one morning, a bit later than normal, A text, from someone who for privacy reasons will only be referred to as “Agent F8” This was no ordinary text, but an M&S text (Marvellous & Spectacular) an invitation, to The Foxy Ballroom in Stirlingshire. Agent F8 had invited me along on previous successful shoots, so there was a level of expectancy. We met up and headed off into the deep dark wilderness of Stirlingshire.

We set up, getting low tripods maybe 6” off the ground, getting down wasn’t an issue, however getting back up at some point in the future remained a concern. We waited around 30 minutes, Agent F8 spied Fred and Ginger in the distance venturing closer step by step. The atmosphere and excitement intensified. I held my breath and remained completely still as Fred and Ginger (two of the cleanest foxes I’ve seen) edged closer, closer than I had ever been to a wild fox.

Initially they remained low in the grass but overcame their shyness. The foxes they were incredibly fearless & inquisitive, gradually coming closer drifting into the range for my 400mm lens. There were even a couple of occasions they came too close. and began their dance.

It was an incredible privilege to watch them play, something I could have watched for hours, as they played and danced to an audience of two. I kept snapping, capturing some of my most commented on images. Fred and Ginger danced on for thirty minutes or so before heading off home to their den.

This is without doubt a highlight of 2022 and much thanks to “Agent F8” for their kind invitation.
